Movies like “The Da Vinci Code” & “National Treasure” has thrilled us over the years. The major hook which draws audience to watch them is the mysterious puzzle, facts or places which the protagonist chase and win over. Stories similar to these resonate in our realm too. Researches from various domain have come together to solve these mysteries of the world. We have got little success however there are many which still has not been understood and explained.

Here is the list of 10 mysteries of the world which are yet to be decoded.

 10.  Voynich Manuscript

This 240 page detailed manuscript is named as “The world’s most mysterious manuscript”. It is named after American-Polish bookseller Wilfrid M. Voynich who bought this book in 1912. What is more intriguing fact about this manuscript is that it is written in some unknown language which the historians have been unable to decipher. Too many diagrams and sketched are covered in the manuscript which don’t even relate to human existence. The original author is still unknown but carbon dating reveals that it is of 14th century.

There are myriad theories related to this manuscript. Some say that the diagrams of the herbs and plants are related to the medicines in medieval period. Some speculate that it was meant for alchemist. But some are of the view that the unnatural diagrams and script lead to the world of aliens. But historians are unanimous on this view that it has got nothing to do with any sort of hoax hence its inclusion in the mysteries of the world

9.  Krytpos

What is the most striking thing about the encrypted sculpture is its location. It was designed by artist Jim Sanborn who sits outside the CIA headquarters in Langley, Va. In 2006, Sanborn informed that all the inscriptions have got some meaning and in 2010 he released another clue with the Letters 64-69 NYPVTT in part 4 which were decoded to form BERLIN.  Now you can try your hand at other clues as well.  It’s acknowledged as one of the best man made mysteries of the world.

8.  Beale Ciphers

You have already gone through the jackpot stories in your childhood where mysteries of the world are enclosed in an unknown script would when deciphered would disclose the location of an earthed treasure. Same is the case with Beale Ciphers. It’s a set of three cipher texts which supposedly holds the location of one of momentous buried treasures in America’s history which consist of gold, silver and jewels worth thousands of dollars. It was first revealed by an obscure man named Thomas Jefferson Beale in the year 1818. Only second one has been unearthed out of three cipher texts and the key role was played by the U.S. Declaration of Independence .The ciphered text revealed where the treasure was buried and it was in Bedford County. But hold one! It’s exact location is still unclear. Authorities speculate that it would be encrypted in one of the ciphers.

7.  Phaistos Disc

Its mystery resembles to one of the stories of Indiana Jones movies. It was discovered by an Italian archaeologist Luigi Pernier in 1908 at the site of Phaistos in Minoan Palace. It resembled a disc made of fired clay and contained cryptic symbols that perhaps represented any unknown form of hieroglyphics. Archeologists believed that it was formed in 2nd millennium. Some students believe that the ieroglyphs have symbols similar to Linear A and Linear B, scripts used in ancient Crete.

This disc remains one of the most prominent mysteries of the world for archeologists.

6.  Shugborough

What comes first in your mind hearing 18th-century Shepherd’s Monument in Staffordshire? Quite obvious, it would be re-creation of Nicolas Poussin’s famous painting, “Arcadian Shepherds”. But take a closer look and you’ll find the cryptic sequence of letters: DOUOSVAVVM, a code that has been regarded as one of the top mysteries of the world for more than 250 years. Some speculate that it is a clue for whereabouts of Holy Grail left behind by the Knights Templar. Charles Dickens and Charles Darwin have also tried their minds but failed.

5.  Tamam Shud case

It is one of the most profound mysteries of the world is in Australian history. It was a case of an unidentified man who was found dead in December 1948 on Somerton beach in Adelaide. The authorities found a piece of paper in his hidden pocket which was sewn within his trousers. The paper read words “Tamam Shud” also referred as “Taman Shud” which meant “ended” or “finished” and was used on the last page of Omar Khayyam’s collection of poems “The Rubaiyat”. It was also found that the dead man had a copy of Khayyam’s collection as scribbled code.

 4.  The “WOW” Signal

One night in 1977, Jerry Ehman was scanning radio waves from deep space eying random signals. Jerry was a volunteer for Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence and perhaps the first man to receive signals from aliens. While going through the signals, he saw his measurements spike where the signal lasted 72 seconds. It was pretty loud and appeared to have been transmitted from Sagittarius constellation, 120 light-years away.  Ehman wrote “Wow!” on the printout of the signal and therefore got the name “Wow Signal”. Several attempts were made to decipher the mysterious signals but nothing concrete could be found. Surely this case is more than the top mysteries of the world; in fact more of mysteries of the space.

3.  The Zodiac Letters

Zodiac Killer was a serial killer who petrified the residents of the San Francisco Bay Area in the early 70s. Zodiac Letters are a set of four encrypted messages believed to be written by the killer. The letters were written in a peculiar way so as to taunt the journalists and the police. Though one of the messages has been figured out but other three still remains a mystery.

Till date nobody has figured out who was/were the Zodiac killer and hence it still figures in the mysteries of the world list.

2.  Georgia Guidestones

It is a granite monument erected in Elbert County, Ga., in 1979.and often referred as “American Stonehenge”. The monument is engraved in eight languages viz Arabic, Chinese, Russian, Hindi, Spanish, English, Swahili and Hebrew; each one has got 10 commandments for “an Age of Reason”. The stones are lined up with certain astronomical features. Though it doesn’t contain any encrypted messages but its purpose and its origin has raised eyebrows. First of the 10 commandments is pretty controversial which states “Maintain humanity under 500,000,000 in perpetual balance with nature.” Still archeologists and historians are engaged in mission to decode this.

1.  Rongorongo

Last but not the least in this list of mysteries of the world  is a system of cryptic glyphs discovered written on several artifacts on Easter Island. Many people speculate that they represent an obscure system of writing or pro writing which could be one of the four independent inventions in writing in our history. The glyphs are still waiting to get decoded and they interpret the collapse of the statue-building Easter Island civilization which is lost forever.
