10.  SAPPORO’S SPACE BARLEY

9. CROWN AMBASSADOR RESERVE

Crown Ambassador shares the same popularity in elite and ostentatious class as Foster’s shares in the mediocre class. It’s kept in French oak barrels for over a year and then packaged in champagne like bottle. Crown has marketed it as an alternative to a wine. It is undergoing fourth round of iteration and each batch consisted 8000 bottles.

Ale has got a unique history behind its evolution. In 1990 when archeologist Dr Barry Kemp went to Queen Nefertiti’s Royal Brewery for excavations, he found out ten brewing chambers with beer residue. He along with Dr Delwen Samuel quantified 3000 years ole recipe. Then they teamed up with Scottish brewer Merrington to produce 1000 bottles and priced it $ 7686 which gradually dipped to $ 75. Later Mennington had to shut down their operations.

SAMUEL ADAMS’ UTOPIAS is the one of the most expensive exotic beers in America. It is released after every two years and aged in cognac, brandy, sherry, bourbon and scotch casks for 18 years with a touch of maple syrup. Because of its alcohol content, Utopias was banned in 13 states .

5. SCHORSCHBRU’S SCHORSCHBOCK 57

PRICE: $275/330ml

ALCOHOL BY VOLUME: 57.5%

Schorschbrau claims it to be the strongest beer in the world. It surpassed and violated the Beer Purity Law and for that reason they produced only 36 bottles with a price tag of $ 275. It is nutty , smoky, with hints of raisins and alcohol. But still it did not go well with the beer fanatics.

4. CARLSBERG’S JACOBSEN VINTAGE

PRICE: $400/375ml

ALCOHOL BY VOLUME: 10.5%

 It comes with an expiry date of 2049 and till date only 600 bottles have been produced. It is kept in Swedish and French oak barrels for 6 months before coming into the market. It tastes like vanilla and cocoa with a touch of tar and rope. It is served in the elite restaurants of Copenhagen with finesse. It was launched to target the vintage and luxury wine market and mark its own presence.

ALCOHOL BY VOLUME: 55%

Only 12 bottles exist on the planet and it is second most expensive and third strongest beer in the world. It was mixed with juniper berries and nettles from Scottish highlands and is kept frozen for multiple times. Each bottle follows taxidermies: seven stoats, four squirrels, and one hare.

PRICE: $44.00/720ml

The beer is exclusively designed for China to target the markets of brandies and high end wines. Its American version comes under the column of cheapest beers but in China, the story is altogether different.
